"The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest open-access festival in the world and we at the Fringe Society have to thank Kotikan for helping us to cement our position at the forefront of festival innovation with the groundbreaking ticket purchase functionality included in this years apps. Kotikan's attention to detail and enthusiasm for the Fringe made our apps the success they were. We are sure the apps will continue to be a real asset to the Fringe for many years to come."

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest arts festival in the world and takes place every August for three weeks in Scotland’s capital city.
With over 40,000 performances of 2,500 shows in 258 venues, it can be a serious challenge to navigate and sometimes overwhelming for attendees. Having worked with the Fringe in 2009 and 2010, Kotikan’s ambition was to create an exciting app that would be invaluable to festival goers in 2011.
One of the challenges faced by the Fringe was to provide a simple way for attendees to easily buy and collect tickets while out enjoying the festival.
The Fringe wished to reduce the queues outside box offices and increase the number of tickets sold by providing mobile ticket purchase. It was also essential that the app continued to build on the features employed in previous years and provide increased integration with social media. The app was also to be available on Android for the first time, making it accessible to even more festival goers.
The app allowed visitors to find shows based on their location, choice of category and start time. When a suitable performance was found, users were given the option to purchase tickets in-app and collect them from a number of locations around the festival. Synchronisation with the Fringe box office system meant users had the full range of ticket options with up to date availability and access to 2 for 1 ticket deals. Festival goers could now book tickets wherever they were without waiting in queues. This made the Fringe the largest event in world to offer mobile ticket purchase.
As well as providing the ability to browse the Fringe Programme and book tickets, the app included a number of other features:
Virgin Money Half Price Hut - Displayed offers through a live feed.
My Festival - Favourite shows, calendar reminders and purchased tickets. This provided a great opportunity to plan ahead and set up a personal itinerary for an exciting Fringe visit.
Social Media - Festival goers could share their Fringe plans and favourite shows through Facebook, Twitter and e-mail.
Offline Browsing - Program data was made available offline with dynamic synchronisation to include newly added Fringe shows.
Nearby Now - Perfect for a last minute chance to find a new favourite show.
